Highlights help from infrastructure bill being debated in Congress.
The Department of the Interior released its plan for addressing wildfires on federal lands. Members of the department’s leadership toured the site of the 2020 South Obenchain fire which burned over 30,000 acres of land and resulted in about 100 structures being lost. Policy, Management, and Budget Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Rachael Taylor highlighted the $1.5 billion apportioned for wildland fire management in the infrastructure bill currently under consideration in Congress.
According to Assistant Secretary Taylor, “Climate change is making fire seasons more intense as our firefighters deal with hotter, drier conditions and more extreme fire behavior. The increased frequency of fires in urban areas is impacting more homes, businesses, and communities each year.” She also highlighted the department’s plan to partner with local communities as a key way to address the growing threat of fires.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For officials from the Interior Department as they address wildfires.
- For Assistant Secretary Taylor as she works to reduce the damage of wildfires.
- That God would lead Congress on how best to address the threat of wildfires.
